One of the few silver linings to come out the Iraq debacle was at least the knowledge that Saddam Hussain was going to pay for the evils that he had done. We went to war for evil reasons, and selfish profiteering has taken place from day one of this thing, but there had at least been the hope that despite the fact that two wrongs don't make a right, at least the false pretense used to justify it could do the periphial good of bringing down a monster and a madman.... In the early days of his trial, it looked like Saddam was just making a mockery of the court, and being his usual idiotic self. The judge was foolish to permit this kind of thing to go on, but the idea was (I presume) to show the validity of the court by showing that the wheels of justice turn slowly despite the fact that Saddam was ranting like a lunatic. No more. There comes a line where any court, no matter how dire or dark the person being tried is a travesty of justice. Even Saddam Hussain deserves at least SOMETHING of a fair trial, and this is a total joke. Better not testify against the court...
