<subject>Education Tax</subject>
<event>
So I was talking with someone in my ward and the subject of Education came up (Jennifer was giving someone else so of the artifacts she'd had as a teacher). As me and person X were talking, I mentioned that we need to empower Teachers, and make parents realize that they have to take more responsibility. She agreed with this. I also mentioned we may have to be willing to raise taxes to do this if it came to it. She didn't like this. She said that there were lots of big corporations out there that should shell out money to improve our schools instead of regular people. An interesting idea. Indeed, it gave me the idea that if a responsible paper company puts a tree in the ground to grow for every tree it chops down, why can't the government tax the corporations that send jobs oversees, so that for every job we lose, that amount of money is placed into an education fund to help train someone else. Its like a gasonline tax going to fund a road, directly applicable financial solution from the problem. I do know the government wastes a lot of money. Because of contracts I signed, I can't exactly reveal intimate details about the day to day work environment...but what I can tell you is....there were LOTS of ways to save money that weren't being taken advantage of. Some of them would have saved millions. Indeed, if you applied a few of them across the entire Federal Government, we'd have more than enough money for Education. In a few years, no one is going to want to teach. A teacher gives her whole life to teaching and does nothing else during the school year. If you blame teachers for the problem with education, you obviously are a clueless heartless jerk. You don't understand what teachers go through just to be able to teach at all much less teach at all. Either you don't know, and haven't bothered to find out before you complain about it, or you do know and are a sociopathic person that doesn't care and still expects that kind of hour and dedication on the pitance that they currently pay teachers. Either way, you don't deserve my respect. Don't blame the teachers. Blame yourselves. Parents who don't bother to help their kids with their homework. Sure Parents are busy (and no I'm not a parent yet) but they do a lot more good than teachers do. Let me tell you, there is no more juice there to squeeze. Your programs and your shuffling and beucratic crap have made normal teaching impossible. Don't expect them to do more. And if you don't think parents can do more...stop voting for people who don't give a crap. And there are people that care and want to do good. Don't tell me there aren't. Learn to actually pay attention instead of just believing everything you're told.
